This document provides a visual representation of the Occupational Therapy (OT) Compact licensure status across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The map below shows the color-coded status for each state, detailing whether they are a member of the OT Compact, have introduced legislation, or have not enacted the compact.
What you need to know about the status of the OT Compact:
- The OTC is not yet issuing compact privileges to practice.
- The application “go live” date for practitioners to apply for privileges to practice is to be determined.
- You cannot practice in an OTC state under the OT Compact, even if that state has enacted OTC legislation.
- You will need to apply through the OTC to receive your privileges to practice in OTC states.
- The application will be linked from this webpage when the process opens.
- Until the OTC applications open, you need a license to practice in any state you wish to provide OT services. Follow that state licensing board’s traditional licensing process to obtain your license to practice.
- States are in the process of piloting the national data system which is currently in development. The data system will provide secure data transfer abilities between states. The data system is necessary for states to upload their data and for practitioners to apply for their privileges to practice.
